DENTAL VENEERS
Dental Veneers (composite veneers and porcelain/ceramic veneers) are utile components used in cosmetic dentistry to improve your appearance and protect the tooth surface from damage. The practice involves covering the front side of the tooth with a wafer-thin, custom-made shell bonded to the tooth using a bonding agent. These shells resemble the appearance of normal dental enamel to improve the aesthetics of your teeth.
WHY YOU MAY NEED
DENTAL VENEERS?
You should consider dental veneers if you need the following:
- To repair cracked, chipped, or decayed teeth
- To correct gaps and irregular, uneven, or misshapen teeth
- To whiten discolored teeth
- To protect and strengthen teeth, especially when you’ve had too many root canal treatments
- To transform the look of your teeth, including their length, morphology, or shape
- As an alternative to braces when you have misaligned teeth

WHAT IS THE PROCESS
To perform dental veneering, the dentist examines your teeth, discusses with you about your desires and expectations, and guides you through shades selection. The process then proceeds according to the type of veneers suitable for your case.
- Porcelain veneers (Two dental visits): On the first visit, the dentist may or may not give you a local anesthetic. He or she makes room for the veneers by removing a thin layer of enamel from the tooth. A mold of the tooth is then formed and is used to custom-make your veneer. Meanwhile, temporary veneers are placed to replace the layer that was removed. You’ll have to wear them until the ceramic veneers are ready.
On your second visit, your dentist will get rid of the temporary veneers, and then put a mild chemical on the tooth to make it a little rough. This allows the custom-made veneers to stick to it better. The veneers are bonded to your tooth using resin cement. The benefits of this process are:- The veneers are strong and durable- can last up for more than a decade
- They have the ability to reflect light and match surrounding natural teeth
- They are stain resistant
- For Composite Veneers: The dentist applies a mild chemical on the front surface of the tooth that requires veneering to make it rough, followed by placing of composite on the tooth in layers. Special bright light is then used to harden each layer. The dentist will then adjust the veneer to fit on your tooth and polishes it. Advantages of the process are:
- They are pocket-friendly
- Requires one dental visit
- The finished tooth looks smooth and natural
